They are a 501(c)3 private operating foundation established in 1980. They believe that the lives of all cats — friendly and feral — have value and that keeping them in their homes — indoors or outdoors — is important. They introduced their TLC/for The Love of Cats Spay/Neuter Programs in 2000 to reduce (and eventually eliminate) the shelter practice of killing homeless-but-healthy cats. This is the leading cause of cat (and kitten) death in Michigan — over 75,000 killed each year — one every 7 minutes around the clock.
